This list features some of the best online schools in Florida. Each school featured is a nonprofit, accredited institution — either public or private — with a high standard of academic quality for post-secondary institutions. We included liberal arts colleges and research universities as well as small, midsize, and large institutions. Next, we compared this comprehensive list to a list of aggregated college rankings from reputable publications like the U.S. News & World Report among others to simplify a student’s college search. We pored through these rankings so students don’t have to.
For this list, we only included accredited institutions that employ a high standard of quality for post-secondary institutions. Most of the colleges on our list are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), a reputable organization that examines the academic objectives, quality, and overall effectiveness of education programs in the southern United States.
We evaluated each school on tuition costs, admission, retention and graduation rates, faculty, and reputation as well as the student resources provided for online students. Then we calculated the Intelligent Score on a scale of 0 to 100. Read more about our ranking methodology.

How long do you have to live in Florida to get in-state tuition rates?
Establishing Florida residency typically requires you to have resided in Florida for at least 12 months prior to declaring Florida residency. You must also prove legal and physical ties to the state by changing your driver’s license and voter registration, owning property or paying rent, paying for utilities in the state, etc. Some exceptions are made for active-duty service members and spouses of Florida residents.
Who qualifies for reduced tuition costs in Florida?
Florida recently passed a new bill on higher education that includes some new tuition discounts and waivers. For instance, some students whose grandparents reside in Florida can now qualify for in-state tuition. Additionally, Florida participates in the Academic Common Market — though only at the graduate level.
The state of Florida also sponsors the Florida Student Assistance Grant Program, which provides need-based funding to full-time students at Florida’s public universities and community colleges. The amount of the award differs every year. Eligibility is determined using information from the FAFSA application, so it’s important to file that early and accurately. Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program
Funded by the Florida lottery, this program provides several levels of merit-based scholarship money to qualified applicants, ranging from partial to full tuition and fees to a university in Florida.
Who’s eligible? Florida high school graduates with a minimum 3.0 GPA, 75 community service hours, and ACT/SAT score of 25/1210.

This program provides need-based funding to first-generation college students who reside in Florida and attend a public Florida university or community college.
